Graffiti, Peshawar 1988- It was quite fashionable for university students to express these kinds of sentiments during the height of the supply efforts that ran through Pakistan to the Mujahedin at that time. It was one of many apparent contradictions that confronted anyone who tried to make sense of the Afghan war. The CIA insisted on supplying only the most radical anti-American factions which only encouraged more of the same in Pakistan.
